New Guy

Hi 911 fans,

I just joined the forum and also PCA recently. Having gone to Monterey this past year for auto weekI was bitten badly by the Porsche bug as it was the featured marque.
I have owned and own British cars(Healey and Triumph) so this would be my first Porsche. I am searching for the 1978-1983 911SC as it seems to me to have a nice balance of dependability and that vintage feel and look of the earlier 911's.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone and SC owners in particular on their experiences owning such a wonderful car!

Thanks,

Scot

Well, a '78 Porsche is a 31 year old car, with everything that means. I owned a slew of big Healeys back when and the Porsche is better engineered and better built than any of them, but it is also engineered so it has to be that much better built and assembled to run well: point being a Healey or a Triumph can be "restored" a bit rougher and still run satisfactorily: the 3-liter Healey engine in particular was a truck/bus engine that was heavy as a stone but about as complicated as one, too. The air-cooled horizontally opposed flat six was another matter entirely, as was the rest of the car. A 30+ year old 911in good condition is a jewel, one in not-so-good-condition is the car from hell.
