Opinions

Greetings, friends. First post! I read a lot of the threads posted here on the 996 including the 996 buyer's guide (https://www.germanautoforums.com/m_12022/tm.htm), but I still want a couple of opinions from the community. Without telling you all my life's story, I'm interested in getting a Porsche since I now have more discretionary income. However, I've been a Honda/Acura owner all my life. I'm looking for a used 996 and my budget is about $30K. While I understand that no Porsche will have the ease of maintenance as a Honda car, I'm curious if you've found some years better than others in terms of lemons.

I'm not a speedfreak. I've always loved the 911 and maybe it's time to get one. I don't need the TT and I don't need to modify it to be happy with it. I'm just looking for a good quality, low(er) maintenance Porsche that I can use as a daily driver 8 months out of the year (I'm in Utah).

I'm sure Porsche owners, like any marque, have many differing opinions. I also know there are model years (and trims) of cars that you simply avoid (like 99-03 Acura TL had major tranny failure problems).

So, with my budget and hopes for the Accord version of the Porsche, what year and model would you recommend? Just a handful of models will do.

Thanks in advanced, Gents.

Steven

RE: Opinions

Steven,

My 1999 Porsche 911 cab has been perfect. I only changed oil and tires. JD Power rates Porsche as #1 for the first 5 years of relaibility.

I just traded in my car of 9 yearsfor a new 997 variant of the 911 cab. I think you will be happy with a Porsche if you buy one that is well taken care of and not abused. They are veryrugged cars.

I do not know about which years to avoid in the 911's.

Good luck,

Lee

Thanks, Lee. That's good info. I'll start my seach--looks like I can get a 99-00 for the $ I want to spend.
