Problems with handeling
 

I have a 996 TT for some reason the car feel really bad when you take off hard, it kind of goes everywhere, does somebody seen this problem?

How much tread is left on your tires. I just put new Pilot Sports all the way around on my car, and the difference is amazing! Tires wear down at such a slow pace that you don't realize how poor they handle till the car squirts all over the lane from the tires grip in the groovesof the pavement. Now my car goes straight without much effort at all.

Hi,

I have a 996 turbo and there should be no drama taking off. I have just replaced all four tyres with Continentals, it launches straight as an arrow.

A note on tyres:

The previous tyres on my turbo whilst having plenty of tread left, had gone hard (previous owner never drove the car). The tyre codes indicated that they were made in 2000.ThelocalPorsche techhelped identify the problem.

The symptoms found were:

a) under hard braking the ABS would kick-in in the last metre or so of braking, particularly bad news driving mountains with hair-pin bends!
b) plenty of tyre noise which varied according to tarmac conditions
c) abnormally harsh ride

I just picked the car up today and the transformation is significant, it was great before, it is fantastic now! The ABS is silent and the road noise has reduced significantly.

Can you expand on what do you mean by "feels really bad"?

from experience, haven't noticed any problems. but i watched the motor week videos for the 996tt and 997tt back to back, and noticed that during the 0-60 launch, the 996tt looked like it was lurching to one side and the driver had to hold on tight to keep it straight. 997tt looked completely linear, and didn't show the front end lift up like the 996.

You need to consider whether the cars in the video have 4WD. I have a 996TT 4WD and there is no sign of yaw on launch or gear change.

In comparison, my E46 M3 SMG has quite a bit of yaw on gear change, little on lauch.
