Questions for 911 SC owners.
 

Hi everyone I am new to this forum and have never owned a porsche. I have been dreaming of finally owning a 911 and have basically narrowed my choice for the 911SC.

One question I have is concerning its radio antenna. It is possible to install an antenna that looks like an antenna of a walkie talkie radio? I don't really like the automatic raising antennas, they seem to break and I feel they would be too tall for the car.

Also, I know the car only has 180HP, is there a way to get maybe 200hp without having to spend a fortune?

Also, what are the performance specs for the car, like 0-60mph, 1/4 mile times and top speed?

For about $2500 you can add SSI heat exchanger and SS exhaust system. That will give you an additional 25HP. That is about all you want to do this car. Before doing so, make sure the engine can handle it (perform a leak down test).

Ditto on porshah's post and I would add, forget about those old american hotrod questions, 1/4 mile, and start thinking SKIDPAD!!
Many say and I would agree that the SC's are the best cars for the money. By all means buy as new as you can afford as they just get better, but the SC's are basic enough that one can do much of your own maintanence and there are really no major problems that plaque the model. They don't have the nimblness of the early cars but they do have the amenities that make them good daily drivers.

0-60 is about 7sec, 1/4 in high 14's low 15’s, The SC's are the most bulletproof car Porsche has ever made that allow DIY maintenance Before buying, do a PPI (pre purchase inspection). This is key to buying any Porsche. If done by a good shop with compression and leakdown numbers it should run around $200, but its money well spent. SSI’s and exhaust are about the only cost efficient thing you can do to SC to get more HP. Going on a diet is cheapest way to better performance. Things like RS door panels and carpet, fiber glass bumpers, lighter seats, getting rid of rear seats, sound detening, radio delete are all common things to do. Good luck on your search. Remember, buy the newest Porsche you can afford. The 2.7’s really don’t apply to this rule, but that’s a topic up to discussion.

Edit: top speed is around 140 or so for a stock SC. But PLEASE dont push this on a public road, save it for the track!!

Pablo.. I am Brand new here also,, this is my first post,,,,

but I have had 3 911's spread over 15 years... 2 1977 S's coupes, and at present.. a 1983 911 SC CAB.. black, burgundy, 80,000 miles... a nice piece...

my initail thoughts are... If you are asking how fast these 20 some year old cars are... you may be missing the point of having one... these are really nice cars that perform reasonably well... but are hellishly expensive to fix... so you DO NOT want to go beating on one

the joy of this car is how SLOW you can drive it... giving everyone ample time to drool...

If you want to go fast.. cheap... buy an early 90's Z28 camaro for 5 grand and go for it!!!! I really wouldn't plan on any porsche being "best raw preformance" for the money
