Hi Guys!

Ok, im new here, just sold my corvette and steped up to a porsche. I recently purchased a 2002 911 with 24,000 miles on and cant wait for the truck to arrive with it. In the mean time I have been looking on the web and have seen a large amount of articles about the rear main seal needing to be replaced every 20,000 miles or so because the crank shaft hasnt been centered when it was made. Is this true? and if so what can be done about it, or do I just have to eat the cost every 20,000 miles?

I'm new to the 911 (2 weeks or so) and read a lot about the RMS issue. So far, I have found out that a very small percentage of Tip cars (at my dealer anyway) have had to be fixed. Not sure the percentage of 6 speed cars. To me, after reading more than I probably should have and stressed about it, I'd sit back, drive it like ya stole it and have fun til it leaks. I think there is a one time new fix for it should it happen down the road. Have fun. Cheers.

Drive it till it leaks. It may never leak. The internet makes it sound like a bigger deal than it is, but I really don't see a lot of cars with the seals leaking. Yes, every now and again, you find one with some wet spots, but the percentage is small.

I have 27K on my 2002 996 C2. I have have oil leaks but not the RMS. The right side valve cover leaked slightly and they pulled the engine at 24K to check another leak that was I believe was on a balance shaft below the RMS (still under warrenty).
