RMS leaks?
I'm one of the lucky 996 owners who has not experienced a RMS leak. I currently have 49k miles and really don't drive it too hard and only about 3-4k miles per year. Just wondering, (and this is probably a Porsche Doc question), but is there any correlation between driving hard, having a certain amount of miles, to having the RMS leak?

RE: RMS leaks?
109,000 miles and no RMS issues here, although I did need to have both valve cover seals replaced, which was just as expensive when you consider all the other parts I had to replace. I don't think you will hurt the motor by driving it hard. I drive mine every day though, and always wait till it gets all 9 quarts up to operating temp before I do any spirited driving. According to Porschedoc, "Typically, if the engine does not show a leak at the RMS by 15k miles, then it will not likely occur."
I've been eyeing a Targa just like yours in Artic Silver, becauseI like the idea of being able to open that rear window for loading cargo. Nice car. Get out and drive more, Kevin |
