short shift option
 

I just had the local dealer do the short shift change over on my '06 C4S Cab.($300 + $200 labour)/ Very interesting. A much shorter throw between gears. When Porsche went into the 997 models in '05, the throw was shorter. Now it's way shorter. It's only been one day, but I like it. Has anyone else done this, and do you like it?

Yes, I've done it as well - using the Porsche OEM kit with integrated base. Throws are significantly shorter and a bit notch-ier. Overall, a nice upgrade but not sure I'd do it again. I think that it's more psychic value than actual performance.

I've had short-shift kits on a number of cars: vettes, a Camaro, an Alfa long ago, assofted Porsches, Acuras,etc.. While the shorter shift is cool, ultimately I have decided the factory has it about right overall and I would not do it normally.

The exception here is that some of the American car conversions are to "drag racing" shift kits which are, if you are drag racing, much better. These basically grease the 1-2 shift and almost force the trans to snap into 3rd instantly when you leave 2nd. They materially help in a drag race, but they force 3rd gear in cases where you don't want it in daily driving: on my vette, it meant I had to really work to force it into 5th, which was normally where I shifted when trying to make 0-200 mph runs in under a mile (never could quite get there, not blaming it on the shifter, but itwas a pain).

Somepone recentlyoffered me a short shifter kit for the Aston ($1400, but then that's about right given the price range of the car) but I passed.
