Steering Wheel Removal
Looking for advice on the removal of a steering wheel from my '86 Carrera, as I'm installing a Momo hub and wheel. I've had experiences with rather sticky steering wheels in other vehicles -- I'm wondering if anyone has some experience with their 911. My shop manual suggests it fairly straight-forward, however I was curious to hear other viewpoints.
Thanks. Tyler. |

Pull the horn pad towards you until it pops off. Disconnect horn connection. Remove nut and washer holding on steering wheel. Pull steering wheel off steering shaft.

RE: Steering Wheel Removal
Has anyone had difficulty removing the steering wheel nut? Has anyone been forced to use an impact gun?
My socket seems to sit at a bit of angle when mounted to the nut ... can anyone confirm the size of the nut? (ie. 26mm?) Thanks Tyler |
RE: Steering Wheel Removal
The nut is either a 27mm or a 24mm. Should be able to break it loose with a long ratchet. It will be on there pretty tight, but no need for an impact gun.

RE: Steering Wheel Removal
Thanks for the comments - much appreciated. I'll try the 27mm and breaker bar combo tonight.
