summer tire choices

Can anyone comment on Pirellis vs. Michelin vs. Bridgestone?
I had (dealer provided) Bridgestone Potenza's -- 305 30 19's on the rear (235's up front) and being Z rated, they are pretty soft but offer good handling.
I'm wondering about Pirelli Rossos and if anyone has had various experiences of one brand vs. another. Thanks!

RE: summer tire choices

I have had very bad experience with Pirellis. I had a set where all four tires split the tread from the steel tire cord (body of the tire)at right around 20K miles. The first happened at 20K and I thought it was just some road damage. The next, I noticed one day bit splits between the tread and the sidewall like it was coming apart (it was). The scary part was that on the other two of the tires (those I checked after the second tiresplitits tread) were on the inside, where I could not see them in visual inspection: only when it was put up on a rack did my shop catch them. And they were really bad.

Michelin has never given me a bad tire. BridgestoneI have never bought.

I'm unusual here (drag racing background), but I prefer BF Goodrich.

I've had the best luck with Michelin. I had Pirelli's once and experienced very rapid tire wear.

Thanks! Good to know... This is the kind of stuff that you don't read about in the brochures! The more people that answer these kinds of threads, the better since we all benefit for future reference.
20,000 miles is a lot for performance rated (soft) tires.
I would think that 10 K's would just about do it especially on the rears where they get more wear.

Go with the Michelins, you'll get at least 20K+ on the rears.

I love my Goodyear tires on my 912 and my Bridgestones on the 931.

Your drivingstyle should be taken in account when selecting a tire.It usually determines how long a tire will last.Under normal conditions, I would select Michelins for longer wear, Bridgestone Potenzas for better grip... I have heard of Bridgestones gone in 5K miles (rears).

Yeah Potenzas aren't too bad

I just bought 4 new Michelin Pilot Sport Ribs for my 911 Carrera Cabriolet. I previously had Pirelli'sand they wore real fast. I do light driving on the city and highways so hopefully my Michelins will last a lot longer.
