Tiptronic questions

I recently bought a 2001 cabriolet with 39000 miles. Everything works perfectly, except I'm puzzled by the transmission shifting into a higher gear (usually 4thto 5th), and then seeming to shift down again --- the gear indicator will show the shift from 4th to 5th and after a few seconds it will seem to go down a gear but the indicator stays in 5th. Everything is smooth as silk but the tack will show a higher rpm when it does it. Usually this happens when I'm driving slowly in traffic. When I put my foot in it everything works as it should with no downshifting. Is the transmission just getting used to me and will it correct itself in the future or do I have to take it to the dealer? Any insight into how the tiptronic works in drive mode (or is supposed to work) would be greatly appreciated. I'm a new member and haven't been driving aPorsche since I bought a New 912 in 1967 and sold it a couple years later.

RE: Tiptronic questions

Not sure exactly about this. I notice on mine it seems to have a fluid clutch or something that kicks in at lower rpms in the higher gears: regardless the RPM will sometimes vary a bit more than the speed. but I've never really paid alot of attention to it one way or the other.

Thanks, Lee.. that may explain the phenomenon.
