Torn between purchasing a 98 911 Carrera or a 99 911 Carrera....love the old body style but like the small bit of additional room in the 99....also concerned about missing out on the new technology...water cooled (996) vs air cooled (993) although I've heard that the 98 911'sare very reliable and some believe the best cars made. Are the993's just as reliable as the 996's?Are they more expensive to maintain or about the same as the 996's?Are there additional concerns related to the 993's vs 996's?

I'd love to drive whichever one I decide on, on a daily basis. =)

Have two little ones that I need to ensure are comfortable as well - ages 9 and 6.

Thoughts?

My research showed the 993s to be much more desirable in terms of styling and likely in terms of holding value as well. I think the 996 cars are nice, but it should tell you something that the 997s went back to some key styling cues like the round headlights. I think the 993s will have much better collectibility due to the styling and the air-cooled motor. That's my two cents!

I agree with the comment above me. I owned a 1999 (996) cab and it was a perfect car. I bought the car in mid 1998 and just traded it in for a 2008 911 cab (997).

I personally love the looks of the 996 but most Porsche people prefer the 993 as evidenced by the 997 which has similar design to the 993.

A Porsche mechanic on this forum mentioned the 996 cars were better built and required less attention. I do not have an opinion other to say mind for 9 years was perfect!

Good luck on whatever you buy.
