Tyres for my 996 C2 Cabriolet
 

I need new tyres (or tires for you yanks) for my 2001 Porsche 996 C2 Cab, can someone please give me an idea of what you think are the best tyres. As I live in Melbourne Australia I only need summer tyres (no need for winter tyres).

I have been thinking of the Pirelli PZero Rosso's (N4) 225/40ZR18 front, and 285/30ZR18 rear, which I believe Porsche recommend or fit to the car when new. Presently I have Michelin Pilot SX tyres, which have been okay, but do have a bit of road noise.

any help would be appreciated.

Hey, I have a 2003 996 C2 Cab, we are almost brothers.

I live in Canada but I only run the C2 in the spring/summer/fall.

I use to have the Pirelli P Zeros Rosso's on the front and the back. I have been through 1 set a year on the back, but I am only onmy second set on the front.

I changed this year from the Pirellis on the back to Potenza 050 Pole Positions (bridgestone) 285/30ZR18s. I have had them a week, and so far, I think I prefer them to the P Zeros (or there is almost no difference).

I normally drive it on the street, as I have a different car for the track. The fastest the Carrera goes is about 200 KM/H.

I found that the tires wore really quickly. Apparently the PZeros are very soft (which is good for traction) but because the engine is in the rear and the camber (other peoples words) the tires tend to wear quickly.

I am quite happy with the bridgstones thus far.

just put a new set of michellin pilot pros on my 996 C2 and LOVE 'em. i did a lot of checking and the reviews are that they handle almost as good as the pirellis but they last much longer due to the rubber/silicon combo they've come up with. the only down side is they are pricey.

i spent $1350 to put a new set on.
