What size SNOW TIRES
I just picked up my first Porsche (2003 Carrera Coupe) and the down side is it will be my everyday driver :-)
With that being said and considering I live in Chicago I have been advised to purchase a set of Snow Tires. Rather than getting rid of the set that I currently have I though of buying a new set of rims and tires just for the winter. I checked out one of the discount tire sites and haven't had much luck determining which size rims and tires would be best. Here is what I have found: Front: 225/40R18 XL w/ 18x8 Rear: 265/35R18 XL w/ 18x10 Let me know if you have any insight or thoughts. - Seth |
For winter driving, you are going to want to get skinny tires. I would pick up another set of stock beater 17" rims for the 996 and use the base stock sizes of 205 in the front and 255 in the rear. You won't get anywhere in the snow with a big wide tire.

Thanks for the response. It seems that no one online has both 17" rims and the right tires to fit in stock. Would I be wasting my money to get the 18" rims and tires to match or will it just not be that big of a deal unless I am in the snow all the time.

My 2004 Carrera had a door sticker that listed recommended sizes for stock all season and winter tires. For winter, it was 205 front and I think 225 rear. Regardless, getting narrow rims and tires and winter tread compuond will make a big difference.
I just got another vehcile, a beater ('96 Ranger) for snow days -- actually cost less than the snow tires adn new rims. This I strongly recommend. |
