RE: 914 cooling

If The car is a 1.7 liter, it is the one that is known for a sloppy feel, ive heard that alot of people put a shift linkage out ofa 1.8 liter into them. i plan on trying it for my 1.7

The box around the fan has a flap that the thermo opens and closes. It is in the open position most of the time.

If you have an early 73 then you have what is called a tail shifter, later 73 have the side shifter. You can buy the parts and upgrade your early 73 to the side shifter if you want. I would say you need to replace your shift bushings first!
