1984 928s won't start

I have an 84 928 it would not start. It would crank and crank. If you sprayed starter fluid it would start right up until it ran out so i figured one of the following fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel filter.I replaced all it started for about a week.then quit again. Also,I have heard if the battery is not 100 percent that could affect the computer and not start so the battery is new.I broke down and took it to a garage they told me they found a short in the tail lite and that was the problem because it was draining the battery.Does anyone know if this can be true???????

Perhaps some Viagra will solve this problem.

Check the intake manifold bypass valve. A lot of times you can spray in starter fluid like you did and it will fire right up because the starter fluid is getting directly to the engine, but once you let it go straight off the injectors the bypass will open up and let the air in without fuel.
