924 help

i was recently given a 1979 924..

the car was running when it was parked a few years ago, and it has just been sitting.

i am clueless as to where to start in order to get this thing going, so if anyone has any suggestions
that would be great

thanks

A new battery would be a good idea too. The old one can't be up to scratch after sitting around for years doing nothing!:D

RE: 924 help

I'm about to undergo the same task...starting a 1980924 turbo that was last run in 1991 when it was parked. The guy i'm getting if from isn't mechanically inclined...got the car 6 months ago...tried to start it, but it wouldn't fire up. Heard a clicking noise when he turned the key...replaced the starter...same results. So, he gave up. I'm not going to ask him until i finish finalizing all the paperwork...but i doubt he even changed the gas. Although...if it was sitting for that long, it might not have any gas in it anyway is suppose.

My first steps are going to be:
1) Change the timing belt
2) put new spark plugs in it (spraying some wd-40 into the cylinders at this point)
3) new battery
4) drain any gas...check tank... put new gas in
5) Check for rotted vac, fuel, and coolant hoses
6) change oil
5) try to fire her up!!

Anyone got any other suggestions for "pre-startup" steps i might be missing?

Thanks!
Shogun
