Fuel Pump is working but doesn't pump gas??

Hi,
I started fixing my 78 924 about 3 days ago.. fuel pump wasn't working... (Car has been parked for 10 years ) and now the fuel pump is working. It makes a winding sound. I have put gas in the tank, but the fuel pump doesn't pump the gas...[sm=dontgetit.gif](the only thing that has changed is the gas light in the car)
What can cause this? Gas pressure regulator?? Fuel pump no good??

Can someone help me please? [sm=smiley6.gif]

RE: Fuel Pump is working but doesn't pump gas??

I had the same problem, your gas tank is prolly full of rusty gunk. My pump was so noisy the radio had to compete as long as the engine was running. The owner before me had a inline fuel filter put in, I just knocked out some of the debries from the filter and the noise is totally gone.

If you don't have one I would consider putting one in, you can get one from any autoparts store and do it yourself. (clamp off the line/drain out fuel, cut the line, insert filter.) Mine was installed just before the fuel pump.

The best solution is to drop and clean out your gas tank. I haven't done this yet but I'll let you know about my experience when I get around to it.
