gas fumes in 924

I have a 1986 924 and I get gas fumes inside, mostly when I put more than 5.00 in fuel in the tank. What could it be? help? injector? mass air flow? I need a mechanics advice.. thanks

RE: gas fumes in 924

lots of time this problem might be related to loose rubber hose between gas cap and the tank. If you lift the carpeting from behind rear bench seat , remove metal cover and rubber padding . Check the large rubber hose (one that conncts fuel tank and cap) ussualy the bottom clamp gets lose , check all the clamps . I would rotate 180 this large hose or replace is with the new one , just look on the condition if its bad soaked kinda like spunch get new hose.

I agree with gt924s. The most common problem pertaining to gas fumes entering the interior of the 924/944 was the vapor vent line that runs from the side of the gas tank to a vent on the inner right quarter. The best solution to this problem is to go to your local parts house (Advanced, AutoZone, etc) and buy a new vent hose (you can use either fuel line or heater hose) Don't quote me but I think it is a 7/16" i.d. hose that leaks. The large hose that runs from the fuel filler neck to the tank itself is also a huge culprit in the gas fumes in the interior. If it feels spongy or if the ends right after the clamps are starting to fray replace it!
