help, turbo probs.

i just purchased an 81 924 turbo with 48k miles...the turbo isnt boosting.....
one shop said the turbo was blown, but becuase it hasnt made any irregular noises or smoked at all i took it for a second opinion...this shop told me the wastegate is stuck open....what are some websites where i can find turbo parts for this car and is this a common problem?

RE: help, turbo probs.

Clamp the line going to the wastegate and go drive it. Get into boost for about a second and get out. With the wastegate line clamped, the turbo will make enormous boost, and you will pop something if you stay in it too long. If you get on it, and the boost starts to build, then you know your wastegate is the problem. Unfortunetly, I am not all that familiar with the 924 turbo, and I don't know if you can use an aftermarket wastegate like a Tial or Lindsey which we use on the 944 turbos. Your best bet for used parts are the dismantlers such as DCautomotive, okaloma foreign, parts heaven, etc.
