My 1st Porsche 1987 924S
1 Attachment(s)
I’m located in the Florida Panhandle and purchased an '87 924S yesterday from North Alabama. Everything works with the exception of the rear hatch. The motor works but will not release the latches and the key will turn but not release the latches. It was a pleasure to drive the 2 hour trip home, and I can't wait to get the paint buffed out and start enjoying my new project! I certainly don't know anything about Porsches, but hope to learn what I need to know here on this forum!

That looks great...the 924 is a great start on the Porsche ladder.
The rear latch drop link has most proberbly come adrift. If you climb over the rear seats, remove the trunk carpet and you will be able to see the lock mechanisum. It should be clear if the link has come adrift. Get some long nose pliers and push it back in the hole. you should now be able to open the trunk. You will have to fit or replace this part though, as it will keep on comming out. Buy the way, welcome to the forum....don't be a stranger :-) |
87 924s
Welcome to the board. I also have an 87 924S Guards Red. My rear hatch I have to pull on one side of the rear spoiler to get it to open. I don't think the locating pins are just right. If you have not discovered yet. There are a load of resources for the 924. I am replacing my oil cooler seals on mine now. I have already replaced the waterpump, thermostat, tension and balance belt, and head gasket. If you have not found the other sources, Clarks Garage is great, Renslist, and Pelican Parts are great resources. There is also a 944 Group on Facebook for Florida. I live in the west central Florida area.

Thanks for the welcome and especially the resources!

I finally got the rear hatch open, seems the rods need lots of adjustment and I still don't have it just right. I did find the original type spare tire and tool set. I've never seen a spare like this one before. Not to worry regarding the timing belt, I have one and just need the time to install it!

The spare tyre folds flat to save space and is great to watch when you inflate it. Thats why Porsche supply a tyre pump with the car. Have you got the pump with your car?
