928S 1986 need advice I
 

I have own now over 16 years a 1986 928S never had any serious problems. But recently the odometer stop working. brought it to a Porsche Mechanic and after he fixed the Odometer the car would not start not even a sound of starting. They said I have to replace my Ignition computer which I found one on line and had installed and still will not start. Now they tell me it might be my fuel Computer. Everything been checked up to both computers but nothing seems to read out beyond them. Any one out there knows what the problem might be?? My car been sitting for 2 months now at the mechanics garage and still have not started. :confused:

So the engine cranks over, but doesn't start?

Does not crank over not even a spark... It has a brand new battery in it as well.

SO no noises at all when you hit the key? Have they started simple and tried replacing the starter?

Yes, they have, plus a used Ignition computer that cost me $300. and still no results.. Its kind of like guessing.. They tell me I should get a used Fuel Computer but I already sunk $1000. into it and thats not the labor and storage at this point.

Have they tried the ignition relays? I don't see how changing the computers will do anything, that shouldn't have anything to do with the engine turning over. Now if you want it to actually fire, then the computers must work properly, but quite honestly, getting the starter to spin is a very basic electrical concept.

Thanks, I will pass this on.. Only thing they close at 12 noon and open on Mondays. I will get back to you. Its in Florida my home town. and I work presently in Tenn. So, its hard to follow.

I just got off the phone with the mechanic and he tells me it does crank over but no spark an no gas getting to it. That is why he thinks it might be of been the ignition computer or the fuel computer? Guess i should go out and see if I can find me a used Fuel Computer and if that does not work then who knows?

Ok, well that completely changes the diagnosis, lol. Have they replaced the crank position sensor? It will kill both spark and fuel.

I just got off the phone with them and they said that was the first thing they did replaced he senor with a new one.. Also. said they have over 8 hours in it dinogsis all the lines and wires going into the computers work. but nothing comes out on other side to the engine?? So, last hope still is the fuel computer. The cheapest used one I found for a 982s that matches up my serial numbers on the one in the car is $400. not counting shipping from NC.
