1988 944(S) Shifting Problem...

Hi there. Have a 1988 944S with a 944 transmission. Runs great but suddenly having a lot of trouble shifting into 1st, 3rd, and reverse. 2nd and 4th OK. HELP! Linkage seems OK but do not really know what/where to check...
