Default 944 NO STARTING/NO CRANKING

I am new to the board. I spend a lot on Softball Boards and am a huge car enthusiast.

I just took on another project for my buddy.

Here is my problem:

The car has been sitting for 18 months: Yes, a BAD THING.... The car had a new top end done on it as well as the clutch friction disc plate (by me) since it deteriorated.

However, fast forwad to today. He came back from the Phillipines to his carsitting in the driveway and his son having never driven it. He put a new battery in it and nothing. The fuel pump kicks on and everything. The battery is fine. The starter doesn't engage.

Took the starter out and too Auto Zone and they said it was bad. I installed a new one, nothing still. I checked the Volatge and there was 12V on the positive side and then 12V on the small side of the solenoid and turned the key and got 12V. I am questioning whether I have a faulty started from them or more significant problems.

I took the starter backout and am going to take it back for a replacement. Any ideas in the mean time?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Car is a 1987 Porsche 944 NON turbo, NON S model.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Check your grounds, but it sounds like you might have a bad new starter.

Thank you sir.

I just got back in from changing out the starter at the store and that's what it was....

Now, to get it back to being a nice daily driver...

Have a shift light on the dash (its an automatic) that stays on 2nd in whatever gear its in.It hasthe typical odometer problem, going to put in new front shocks, recover the frontseats, polish the wheels, replace a visor and mirror **** and that should pretty much bring it up to a nice daily driver.
