944S No Start
I have a 1987 944s that has been sitting for the last year. The last time I started it before it was put away as I was cranking the starter a small wisp of smoke came out from under the engine. After this the starter would not engage, when I turned the key I could hear a click but the engine will not crank. The car has now been sitting for a year & I would like to get it started. I charged the battery, put a booster pack on the battery, but still only get a click when I turn the key. Any ideas????
Thanks! |
RE: 944S No Start
Hi
Sounds like your starter motor could have finally given up! Same thing happened to my 89' 2.7, I could start it by giving the starter motor a good whack with a piece of wood and a hammer, ordered a recon and fitted it, now it starts first time every time cheers Jeremy |
RE: 944S No Start
Yea, I would look to the starter first since it would not engage when you put it away. Sitting for a year isn't going to fix the problem :) Very easy job to swap out.

RE: 944S No Start
BTW, you can give the starter a sharp smack with a hammer, and that may loosen it up to where it will at least start a time or two before getting stuck in that same position.
