Camshaft belt need help
 

Hi my name is Bill from Spring Tx
I am new to the forum andI am looking for some help. I have a 88-944 and have been doing little things to it my self. I snaped a camshaft belt on the way to work and I am now tring t fix itmy self. I pulled every thing apart and I have put a new water pump on while I was at it. I just can't find any imfo. on the pully line up marks for it and the Balancer pullys. Can any one send me to this imfo?
Do you think I have any bent valves or a way I can test for bent valves?

If the engine was running, which it sounds like it was, you have some bent valves. You should go to www.clarks-garage.com and look in the shop manual area. It covers head gasket change. You will want to look at that.

If bent valves are all he has, he's fortunate. One of my idlers began making noise, and like a good boy, I pulled it off the road and parked it until I was ready to fix it. One day my daily driver laid down on me, and I had to start the 944 to get my truck out from behind it. Was running a total of maybe 90 seconds...I reached for the key to shut it down, and just as I touched it, the pulley let go and the engine stopped with a thunk. One cracked piston, two broken valves, two bent valves...at idle. I didn't know whether to laugh or cuss...laugh, because I didn't have to tow it anywhere, or cuss, because I tried to do the right thing, and Murphy's Law jumped out of the crapper and bit my behind anyway, lol...
The good part was, because of the way the Porsche engines are designed and built, even removing and replacing the piston was less trouble than changing the timing chain on my dad's old 455 Catalina. The bad part, of course, was buying the tensioner tool (ouch!)...the parts themselves were actually less than I expected.

yep...pull the head and take a look is about all you can do. Not a good thing to happen. Would like to hear how it comes out.
