Could I have bent/hurt my valves by...

I attempted to start up my 944 over the winter and there was only just a pinch of juice left in the battery. The car made the attempt to start for about half a second, (almost started) and then died.

I charged the battery and a few days later started it up....There is a loud rhythmic ticking sound coming from the engine. Could I have possibly skipped a tooth on the belt by the false/poor start? (Or caused some other problem). Or is it just cold out and the engine is warm blooded the oil is not getting to the top properly?

Thanks guys. PS: 185,000 miles. 1989 944 N/A.

UPDATE .. yeah ..i just had to idle the car for about 12 minutes and then the ticking stopped. It was the lifters.

Warm it up, it will take time for the oil to fill the lifters. Sometimes 15-20 minutes of driving.

Thanks Doc!

Yes I let the car warm up more and there is no issue, all is running well.
