Earlier struts on an '87 944

I need to replace the struts on my 944 but apparently the later model struts do not have a replaceable shock insert. I would rather not have to buy completely new struts.

Somebody recommended to find used struts off an 85.5-86 junker and replace the cartridges and these will supposedly fit my '87.

Has anyone done this or could at least confirm that they will indeed fit?

I have the base 944 W/ABS which does not have the M030 or M474 suspension options.

The other option is to send your struts out to Paragon Products, and they will install Koni's into your existing housings.

Thanks for the recommendation, Porsche Doc. I will look into that as well.

Do you know if any of these earlier struts will bolt right in, just like that?

I am not sure of the spindle widths early to late NA. When using the early NA struts on turbo cars, you have to shim them because the turbo spindle is thinner. I don't know if the later NA spindles are also narrow or if it was just the turbos.
