Electrical Problems with 83' 944

This is a 1983 Porsche 944 NA, nothing cool. I bought it not running, wanting to upgrade from Dodge Intrepids and Ford Probes as project cars. It had a shattered windshield and I was rather pleased with myself when I got it out and a new one in all on my own.
But, it still doesn't run. I replaced the head gasket on it as two of the cylinders had gone out, built it back up, re timed it, still wouldn't fire. Backfired a bit though.
I got a new wiring harness as I found a bunch of broken wires on this one and figured a new harness would be the best idea. So here's the question:
With the new wiring harness in, the car DOES NOT CRANK, unlike it used to. When I turn the key over the fuel pump doesn't hum, nothing, I get a battery light and an oil light. I thought I had everything in like I took it out, but I don't know if a two pronged female connector from the wiring harness just by the ECU is meant to be blank or may be my problem.
Sorry for how drawn out this is, I really want to get this going so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you haven't plugged everything in yet. I assume you used a harness from the same year (and I am assuming you are talking about the engine wiring harness) There is a two prong connector that will probably be disconnected. Go back through it and double check everything. Could be coincidence that the starter died, I have seen wierder things.

Where would this two pronged connector be?
