engine or head?
 

I just reciently aquired a 1987 944 n/a 5 speed. The body and interior are in great shape for the age but the cylinder head has a hole in it where someone tried to remove a broken exhaust bolt and hit a water jacket. The car has just over 100k miles on it and I was trying to decide if it would be a better investment to buy a new head or a used/remaned engine. Any input would be great. also does anyone have a suggestion on where to look for parts

You should be able to find an NA head for $100 or so used. You want to do the timing belt and waterpump anyway if there aren't records, parts for that will run about $350. Headgasket set runs about 150.

Buying a used engine, and you are still doing the same stuff since you won't have records....timing belt/waterpump/etc.
