engine rebuild

Hi there i have recentyl just picked up a 1986 944. I am new to the porsche world so i hope you guys can help me out a bit. I am looking to see how much an engine rebuild kit would cost me. The motor has 215000 on the odometer so i think it is time for a rebuild. It also leaks oil. Any kind of input is greatly appreciated!:)

RE: engine rebuild

Plan on about $2500-3000 for all the parts you will need to rebuild an engine.

Things you will need:
Rod bearings
Main bearings
Piston rings
Valve seals and guides
Crankcase gasket set
Head gasket set
Waterpump
Timing belt, balance shaft belt, alternator, and power steering belts
All rollers for T&B belts
Front engine seal kit
Camshaft bolt
Loctite 574 (50ml minimum)
Various coolant hoses depending on what needs to be replaced.

RE: engine rebuild

You may want to drive it as is for a while and see if you can find a low mileage used engine. While it is fun to rebuild these engines, the aluminuim block can add alot of cost if it needs any work.
