Engine won't crank over.. HELP

Hi guys,

I have an 88 944 turbo, A few weeks back the starter became sluggish and at times didn't turn the motor over at all. So I changed the battery, the problem persisted, I then took it to a mechanic, he suggested that the starter its self was in need of an over haul. It was dualy done. Same problem. Incidently, on the odd ocasion the starter would crank over fine and give me confidence to drive it again only to be left starterless at the next start..

Here are my observations, When you turn the key, you can hear the solenoid kick in but no crank. I've bridged the solenoid under the car to check and the starter turns at full force leading me to believe that the starter motor is not to blame. You can hear the relays kick in when you turn the key, I've bridged the ignition relay to test and that makes no difference. My only other conclusion is that it might be the solenoid on the starter or on the key ignition its self.

Any Ideas, my electric skills are not great!

Hmmm. Sounds like either a bad connection or a bad starter. Rebuilt starters actually have a pretty high failure rate out of the box, so that wouldn't be unheard of.

Has the electrical part of the ignition switch been replaced? There was a known problem with them that Porsche corrected! Also only use the updated ignition switch from Porsche ,not an aftermarket one as it too has a high failure rate!!
