Hey PorscheDoc, how's your project 944 doin'?

Have you resprayed it yet? Is it off the road or are you drivin' it? I seem to remember you euro spec-ing the front, but what happened next? Got any pic's?

The body has been done for some time now.

It has been the daily driver since the spring when I finished the body.

I tried to finish the DVD Navigation install this weekend with the long holiday, but we ended up tuning a 911 EFI conversion on the dyno instead. Some day I will finish it. The main head unit has been in for a year now, but the rest of it has just been sitting here.

Interior has gone light weight, with custom RS door panels that I did awhile back.

Engine rebuild is in progress, just waiting for the cam tower to come back from the powdercoater. Stock rebuild with a few goodies. Notice the complete powersteering delete, I will be going to a full manual steering setup once I swap the engine in. I need to put together one of our Highflow K26 turbos for it, then it should be ready to drop in the car.

And back to here, where it awaits the powdercoating....

The main problem is finding time to work on my own stuff. After you work on other people's cars all day long, sometimes you don't want to look at your own, so I haven't gotten a whole lot accomplished in the last 6 months or so.

I have been doing things like removing and replacing interiors of 996TT's and 997S's lately...Should be able to the the 996TT back together this week....

WOW! That engine is to drool over [sm=drooldude.gif] & I love what you've done with those door panels and rear bumper!:)

Don't you think that loosing the power steering will make it almost impossible to steer at slow speeds though? (Unless you're built like Arine, that is?)

Only if you cap off a powersteering rack and make it manual that way, then it is a royal pain to turn. I have a complete 944 manual rack system, which came on the 83/84's. It turns much easier than a powersteering rack that isn't hooked up. Remember, the 911's didn't have powersteering until 1990, and you don't even notice it in them. A true manual rack isn't bad at all.

I've got to agree - that engine is wonderful looking.

My wife has a '93 RS America and it has manual steering. It's not too bad except in some of those really tight autocross turns she has to work pretty hard...

Where did you get the door pannels? Would they fit an '84?
