Hey there kids, help me out again.

Ok so...I've got my eye on an '83 944. I am in love with this car :-*

Anyways I've done a pretty good job convincing the woman to get the car, but she rattles on about..what was it..oh right, safety features. I've done a bit of poking around the net but haven't really found much information pertaining to this obstacle, so if you guys know anything about airbags, rollcages and whatnot, help a brother out and let me know the stuff on this car.

Thanks

A 944 in general is a very well built and safe car when it comes to collisions, and handles extremely well to avoid them (especially the early 944's). I am not exctly sure if the 83 has the dog ears on the torque tube, but I know the later models do, which prevent the car from being squished in a rear end collision. While the 83 does not have airbags, the seats and harness equipment are designed to minimize injuries such as whiplash (due to the high back seats). For an early 80's car, it will do very well in a crash. Maybe not as well as some newer cars out there with all the airbags, antilock brakes etc, but still safer than a lot of cars out there. If you really want a safe 944, then go with an 87 or later that have airbags and antilock brakes (options in 87, standard in 88 on).
