A hundred possibilities, but any suggestions?

She was running so good.. until today. I took my wife out for a drive in my '84 944 today that has been running incredibly well since picking it up 2 months ago. Perfect idle, perfect at speed. But today it scared us a little while on the highway cruising at 70mph, I was starting a gradual climb up a hill, and as I accelerated slightly she started to "chug" a little, almost resembling a missfire, as I coasted down the other side of the hillit ran fine. Continually running well on level highway... until I accelerated again and it started missing again. I made it back to base but it was consistantly missing during acceleration for theduration (20 min.) trip back. So, easy on the gas, ran fine... give it gas, chugging. Any suggestions on where to start the investigation?

I've decided to start a general tune-up parts replacement projectbeginning with distributor cap and rotor/wires today. Which brings me to my next question. I installed the new cap but I'm concernedthat the original Bosch cap has a blackinsulator(secondary)cover over the cap. The new cap I purchaseddoes not. Is there something I should know?

You should be able to pull it off the old one and on to the new one.

I was just not feeling right about that cap. Through a little research(Pelican Parts and Canadian Car Parts)I've found that the cap that was orderedfor mefrom a localprivate supplier (I justhad to find one on a Saturday)is very simply... a sub-standard, basic, low quality no-namecap and rotor, although costing 40-50% more than Iwould have paid for genuine Boschthrough viable sources on a weekday. I'll correct this glitch on Monday.
