my 944 nightmare

we purchased a 944 a few weeks ago. i did the general look over and maintenance. deciced to take it to my sisters place in central kansas. left st louis without a problem. went thru tulsa okla on my way and ended up in kingman kansas 14 hours later, heres where the story gets ugly. rubber center ripped out of the clutch disc thirty miles after i left her place. needless to say, my brother in law and ihad a fun two days putting a new one in. does anyone have a story to compare with this one? it does have a happy ending, pelican parts came thru lightning fast with the parts and the car really feels better.

I had the same thing happen to me when I bought my 944 a few months ago. Glad to hear that it only took you a couple of days to replace the clutch; I spent two bloody weekends under that car. Good Luck with the 944! I've thoroughly enjoyed mine since.

RE: my 944 nightmare

While this may not be an immediate nightmare, I recently bought an 87 944 NA after doing a thorough historical research on the car. On the surface I shouldn't have had any problems but each day a new one cropped up and in some cases, major problems. Shocks, engine oil seals, oil cooler seals, radiator fan switch (which entailed three wrong parts delivered), odometer gear a bunch ofmajor hassels. I believe now that the car sat for extended periods and things dried up, or just failed due to disuse. I wish I had noticed the time vs mileage annamolies. I would have been more suspect. Live and learn.

It just goes to show that parking a car up for long periods may keep the milage down, but it can sometimes do a car more harm than good.

I have quite a high milage 944, use it every day (whatever the weather) and have had hardly any problems with it in the five years that I've owned it. Yeah sure, the stone chips have doubled and I've gone through a few sets of tyres, but I have great fun using my Porsche for what it was designed for....

....driving!!!!!!!:D

My 88 has 140 K . I used to own Fiat Spyders, and loved to work on them. They were cheap cars ,but the girls liked them.
I really love the quality of the Porsche. My dream has always been the 911, but i enjoy the 944. Good Luck and keep posting...
