RE: Need Help with TDC - Mark Seems off

Hi Doc,

I purchased a Krikit today. The measurements on it either on Kg or Lbs. I know that if I were to use the tension tool from Porsche I need to set the timing belt tension to 4.0 ±0.3 . What does this equal to in lbs or kg now that I am using Krikit?

Thanks.

IIRC it should be around 40lbs.

Is there a notch on the timing belt back cover for the lower balance shaft gear? I did not notice any.[/blockquote]

It is not a notch, but a raised area that just looks like a slot. It is at about the 7 oclock position.

RE: Need Help with TDC - Mark Seems off

Hi Doc,

I put everything together and started the car. It ran fine for few minutes then it would not stay up.
I noticed that the timing belt got loose. I adjusted again and tightened it to 34 ft-lbs. I cranked the engine , it ran for about three seconds and then stopped. I adjusted the tension again, cranked for few seconds, the belt got loose again. Now it does not crank, as if the timing is off. Is it possible that the belt slipped a few teeth and the timing is now off? Any idea why the belt gets loose?

Thanks for all your help.

I have this strange feeling that I am done for! Probably the car has suffered valve damage.
I removed the timing belt and I can turn the camshaft easily. Can I find out if there is valve damage without removing the head?

You can do a leak down test if you have an air compressor. Other than that, not really.
