new member ?'s about buying a 944

hi guyz. im 15 yo and im looking for a good 1st car. i really like the 944/924 as far as quality to price ratio. im am very interested in geting one but im afraid that if i get one i wont be able to afford maintnence. how relieable are these cars? what usually goes wrong with them? is it gonna cost me more to fix one than to buy one? me and my dad are going to be able to do all the labor ourselvs but i dont really know how much parts cost.
thanks a lot

No you won't be able to afford the maintenance at 15 years old. Plan on at least 1k a year in maintenance (doing all the work yourself), and you really should have a backup vehicle. My advice is to wait until you are out of college and have a good job....then you might be able to afford one. The cars overall have gone to crap because anyone can afford to buy them, but they can't afford to maintain them. It is not a good first car. It may be a fun one, but not a good choice until later in life.....trust me on this one :)

Hey, Eddie, if you want something that's cool, easy to work on, economical to operate, handles well, and laid out similar to a 911...consider finding and buying a VW Beetle (NOT the new one!). There's still TONS of stuff in the aftermarket, and they can be made to run pretty quick, and with low profile tires, will get you around corners faster than a lot of Corvettes. A lotta girls like 'em, too...(if you don't make it too loud; some of the aftermarket exhaust systems can damage your hearing!)

i had a 944 as a first car. yes, it's true that the insurance and especially parts kills you, so you must have a job before thinking of owning one. however, once you have a job going, you can upkeep your 944 and maybe even upgrade to a 951, like i did. one thing is for sure, if you pull up in a 944 in high school, you will be the envy of everyone, not to mention an instant babe magnet

ya the babe magnet thing is the main reason i want it. and its good on gas. and im shure it would be a fun drive. what do you guys think about me getin a 924/914? are they less expencive to maintain? prettie much i saw a porsche 944 in the parking lot of our local grocerie stoor its been my dream car. i probally talked to that guy for like 20 min about it.

and the beetle thing isnt my ideau of a nice car. ive driven them and they seem really squirrely over 70 mph because of the short wheelbase.
