Newbie , Fuel line problems

Hi all, working on a friend's 944 trying to get it through the annual test here in England..

While trying to remove the corroded rear hard brake pipes, I slightly disturbed the very corroded fuel lines as they go up over the axle
:( instant leak

The owner wants an easy fix.. i dont know what to do...

The correct (only?) way I gather is a torsion housing removal and buying the correct pipe work... he thinks as the steel lines under the car are perfect, can we not 'splice' in some rubber decent quality pipe work at the back section of car?...I personally am not sure if there is enough room above the axle for this..

could we use copper pipe work and mate it to the steel using compression joints?

to make matters worse, the return fuel pipe union - where it meets the flexible pipe that goes above the tank, is rusted completely.. It looks like a tank off job involves taking the gearbox off...? or i will have to cut the rubber pipe and try and join that the any new pipework..

nightmare..
just need some ideas...

is there a different way of routing the fuel lines below torsion housing..

I realise the dangers of fuel :)

thanks for any suggestions
John
