Hi all member!:
Always when star the engine of my 85.5 944, theoil pump sound: "clak, clak, clak" and5 to 10 seconds later charge oil(2,5 to 3 bar, cold) I'm new 944 owner and unknow real car mileage, please need advice. thank you MM Caracas-Venezuela |
RE: Oil pump not charge immediately, this is normal?
That is NOT normal, cold oil pressure will be higher 5 + bar. You need to check out your oil pump now!!

RE: Oil pump not charge immediately, this is normal?
What does the Oil Pressure read when the car is hot and on idle?
On cold idle you would expect 5+ bar. You may have to face the thought of an engine rebuild to replace worn big end and main bearings etc. Regards Big Bob |
RE: Oil pump not charge immediately, this is normal?
Hi Big Bob, hi Jay, and thank you for yours replys.
Yes, I think this is my reality... Big Bob, the pressure gauge in idle and hot read 2 to 1.5 bar. two new questions: It is possible rectify crank (MAIN AND ROD) and cilinder on the measure, 025 or 050? if engine does not smoke, should I change rings? Thanks again and forgive my little English MM Caracas-Venezuela |
RE: Oil pump not charge immediately, this is normal?
Hi MM
Dont worry about the English you are doing great. Clearly there is a significant oil pressure problem, and you need to strip the engine down and rebuild. When you canmeasure the amount of wear on the crankshaft, you can decide whether you can refit bearing shells or you need to "regrind" the Main and/or Big End Bearings undersize (the smallest possible to clean up the surfaces), and fit oversize bearing shells. Once you are at this stage it pays to look at everything else and replace what you can, so a set of new piston rings would be good. I would take out the valves and regrind etc. New Oil Seals are always worth it plus a rebuild of the water pump and oil pump etc. I always favoured doing everything at this stage so you can put the Engine back in the car and not have to worryabout something else going wrong. I must admit I'm envious of the view behind your house in Caracas from your photograph! Best Regards Big Bob |
RE: Oil pump not charge immediately, this is normal?
Thank you andgreetings Bob, in Venezuela say, my house is your house.
Yes, I think that is an engine rebuild my immediate destination,is not very different from any other engine. Bob,few more questions: Haynes manual can help me? parts and best price online? what do you think about rebuild specialists. Ex. Automobile Atlanta? hybridlt1, ls1 or other vs original? my email: escribidera@gmail.com Regards MM PD. Ah, if ever come to Carib Venezuelan certainly my house is in order |
RE: Oil pump not charge immediately, this is normal?
Hi MM. Yes I would certainly recommend getting the Haynes Manual.
I'm sure that you will have good engineering workshops in Venezuela who could do the work, although they are not Porsche Specialists. Main thing is to get the engine stripped down and get a list of parts. Then we try and find them. After that your local guys could do the work and you save a lot of money. (I have some UK people who could help with sourcing parts) I visited Venezuela with DuPont and Ford and was impressed of what you guys could do locally. So find a good local engineering workshop and get them on board. I'll hang onto your e mail, as I do get to the Venezuelan side of the Carribbean on vacations sometimes from the UK. Best Regards Big Bob |
