RE: Please Help!

Wow. Does the ticking seem like it is coming from the cam tower? You can take a long screwdriver, and place it in various points on the cam tower and put your ear to it. You should be able to pin point where it is coming from.

I am assuming you have good oil pressure? If not, then I would suspect a spun rod bearing.

If the noise seems like it is in the top end, then you likely have a lifter that has failed to the extreme. If you can pinpoint the noise to the cam tower, I would pull that off and see what the lifters look like. The hydraulic point of the lifter should be nice and firm, you should not be able to compress it at all. Typically when a lifter starts to go, it will be loud on cold start, then get better as the car warms up.

You might also want to drain the oil first, and see if there is any metal in the pan. If there is, suspect a rod bearing has gone, or a rod has broken.

Thank you very much. You are greatly appreciated.
I have one more question. I put 5W-30 mobile 1 synthetic when I changed the oil. It has 114,000 miles on it. Is that a good weight for the car?
