RE: power steering

It doesn't already have power steering? That was standard by 86. Someone must have removed it. If the mounting bracket for the pump is still there, then it came with PS (as it should have). You would need the entire long rack, steering shaft, pump, PS pulley, and all the lines. Running them is fairly self explanatory. You will have to pull the front bumper to install the return cooling line.

no power steering is really no good when around the center of town, or short trips

I actually pulled the power steering out of my car and put in a manual rack. Already sold all the parts though....

Ok, if it is an 83, then it will not have the power steering mount, which is also the front lower balance shaft cover assembly. You will need to source that as well.

RE: power steering

I dont think it is worth the money personally: The only way it will ever be a leak free system, is if you buy a reman or new rack, don't buy a used rack, they usually leak.

$300-400 for a rack (reman)
$50-100 for the pump (used)
$15-20 for a used reservoir
$160 for the return line (the line is a major PITA to replace, so put a new one in)
$35 for the reservoir to pump line
$50 for the other line (return line to reservoir, on the rack end) used.
$50-100 for the front balance shaft cover/PS mount
$30 for a new balance shaft sleeve
$15 for the new balance shaft wiper seal and mylar seal
$10-15 for a used PS pulley that goes on the crankshaft.
$150 for a new intermediate steering shaft

If you can find someone who wants to go to a manual rack, you could easily work a trade for all of their components, for all of yours. A good manual rack with good tie rod ends and steering shaft will bring 350-400, so it is a fair trade.
