Default proper antifreeze for 1986 944

what should be used? got this Zerex G-05 stuff says it's OK for aluminum and some Prestone Extended Life that says it's for any car and can mix with any existing coolant- anybody know if either is OK? Appreciate your comments, thanks.

You want NO phosphates in the contents.

It must say on the outside that it works for aluminium.

The key point in whatever you use,as Willard3 says it must be rated for aliminium engines.
If you have not flushed the coolant system out for a long time, this might be the time too to get out any sludge etc out of the system.
Drop off the bottom hose and stick a hosepipe in the header tank and give it a good clean out. Then refill with Water and Antifreeze at the right mix.

My mechanic, whom has been working on Porsches for 35 years, reccomends either Volkswagon, or Auidi antifreeze. Last time I checked the Volkswagon was 25 a gallon and the Audi was about 12. So go for the Audi antifreeze. Same quality on both of those, and unless I'm mistaken the Volkswagon stuff is the exact same stuff that Posche uses from the factory. Go the the dealer service department for those.

Cheers,

Use distilled water available by the gallon from the supermarket to mix 50/50 (or whatever your desired mix is) instead of using plain old tap water. Tap water usually has undesireable qualities for use in an aluminum engine. No sense to use top shelf German coolant and then mix it with crappy water.

Sorry I made a mistake there. That was Mercedes and NOT Audi.

thanks to all - good stuff - guess I'm old school when anti-freeze was anti-freeze! Figures they finally start to servemarket when the changes in American car engines created large enough market...
