im going totalk to a guy selling a 86' 944, ive already seen it from passing by before but im going to really check it out today, what are some common problems for me to be looking for or things i should ask about it? any help would be appreciated.

When was the clutch done last (16-20 hour $750 parts job depending on if it is a turbo or not)
When was the waterpump and timing belt done last (10 hour job, $500 parts)
Motor mounts (relatively easy on an NA, a bit of a pain on a turbo)
Any Maintenance records (very important to know what has been done)

Those are the big items, but these cars will nickle and dime you to death, so a good set of maintenance records is really important.

 

I would especially check to see when the last time the timing belt was replaced and check all timing tensioners

 

If you purchase the vehicle after checking all of the above things that were mentioned be sure to throw an extra DME relay in the glove box.
