Rusted/broken seat sliders
 

Neither seat moves. The adjuster lever on the driver side releases the outer slider, but not the inner and I can't see/feel a wire going to the inner slider (outer being nearest door and inner being nearest center console). The passenger seat adjuster won't move at all and I may have bent the bar trying to get it to.
Im 5-11 and can't hardly get in or out with the current position of the driver seat.
How do I go about getting the seats out? Im thinking of just going at it with my sawz-all, the seats are completely trashed anyway.

If this is an early car without power seats, then there is no inner rail catch. Once you release the outer rail, the inner will just free slide. Sometimes the sawzall is what it takes, but I would try shooting some kroil in on the seat rails and let them sit for a day, then see if you can jar them loose. Water gets into the floorboard via clogged drain tubes or rusted battery boxes, and then rusts the rails out. The last set of seats I took out for our brumos spec car build took a 10 ton power ram to move the seats forward and back so we could cut them out. I had never seen rails frozen so bad.

Sorry, yes it's a '83 944. Thought I had put it in my signature but apparently not. Had 1/2"-1" of ice built up under the battery on the tray, and at least that much if not more on the passenger foot well. Once it's warm enough to work and no threat of snow I'll shove a coat hanger through the drain tubes.

Is Kroil roughly the same as PB Blaster? I've never seen Kroil before just looking it up.

Unrelated to the seats, did '83's come with power steering? I was told this one didn't have A/C or power steering but the A/C compressor is in the way of me removing the alternator. I can't see anywhere a power steering pump would go, and the only belt I can see goes around the crank, the alternator, and the A/C compressor.

I believe 84's were the first year w/ PS. If it had PS it would be on the passenger side and on the bottom of the car. There will also be a brown PS fluid reservoir near your oil filter....

PS was an option in 83, and became standard in 84.

Kroil is like PB Blaster on steroids. Everyone should have at least 1 can in their garage at all times. Throw every other rust penetrator in the garbage.

So I guess I'll have to order it online, my local NAPA doesn't appear to carry anything but PB Blaster and Liquid Wrench. I'll try the PB first as it's more readily available.

Yup, you will have to get it online at kano laboratories.

What size are the bolts? I'm guessing 13mm from the bad picture in my Haynes manual.
I have an idea of getting the buggers out, need to get at least a 6" extension for my ratchet, a decent size drill bit and a drill though...hehe.

Should be 10mm heads in the early cars (standard socket), or 6mm allens in the later cars.

10mm? Hope I don't round off the heads then.
