smoking?

ok well recently my 84 n/a has been smoking and has had a fowl smell.. i am not to familiar with cars so i have no clue what it could be. i noticied it because it comes in thru the vents into the interior. im just wondering what this could be? my brother in law said that smells like a head gasket. is this an easy fix? if anyone has experienced the same thing or knows what could be going on under the hood please let me know. thanks.

RE: smoking?

If the firewall seal is bad, engine fumes will come into the vent system. I would have a mechanic look at it to make sure nothing is wrong.

I'd tell the chickens not to smoke in your car. Why are there birds in your Porsche?

RE: smoking?

The firewall seal is easy enough to check. Unless I'm mistaken it's just the rubber strip that runs along the firewall and seals to the hood. Your fusebox, battery, and most importantly the airbox are contained there.

It might just be seperated or it could be deteriorating, or just hard and brittle.

It doesn't need any special tools to get to, just pop up the hood. Replacing it should be just about as easy.
