steering wheel leather....

steering wheels.... have recovered stock, replace with stock somehow or Grant???

Wheel is good but 21 years of hands on the leather has faded and even pitted the leather. That and the top horn button clip is broken so it does not sit totally flat with just the two bottom ones holding it on. I'd like a Grant wood rim black frame wheel like a 704 or something. Stock would be great too if I could find one. Finding someone to recover would probably be $$$$$ I am sure I am not the only one looking to replace the wheel and shift boot...

I would just go aftermarket. Momo wheels are very popular on 944's, if you do a search on rennlist, i am sure you can find a model that will not hide your gauges (some will block view of some of the gauges)

Yeah, the factory wheel kind of hides the edge of the tach for me.... Any of these cars have tilt? Just a notch up would be perfect. Also, the annoying rear wiper switch is a very poorly added feature. My gti has the rear wiper incorperated into the wiper switch. push it forward once and it activates and also if held down will be intermittent until pressed again. I know switch will fit, but I doubt I will be able to match the brown color. I can add a relay and wire the switch. It sure would be more convenient. Anyone else done this or thought about it?

Thanks Tigg...... I am amazed there are really only a handful of regular posters on this site. I will try to remain a regular here though.
Anyway, with the color combo on my car I was kind of thinking.....woodgrain.... I hope that's not a bad thing to do on a Porsche. If it were a turbo or something actually fast then it would be out of place, but this car is more of a tourer for me anyway. I still am amazed at how well balanced and easy to drive this car is. She will lug down to nothing if need be and pull out smooth, the box is smooth and the shifting is smooth and positive feeling. It is just a pleasure to drive. I did some looking and production numbers are LOW like 6167 imported here for 85 and of which I do not know what the split is before FN47 and 45 cars were. I have never seen my color either so I really do not want to alter the car in anyway that would hurt it's originality or purpose. LM6Y Metallic Zweischicht Kristallgrun have you seen it??? Anywhere?

Thanks again for your input!

Here is the wheel....

Yea, I'd go for woodgrain too with that colour trim. You can get dashboard kits in woodgrain too. Oh, then there's the gear knob too!....

....I'll get my coat. [X(]

Its a small site, most of the porsche guys are over at rennlist and pelican parts, among others where the forums are huge.

Yeah, I have not checked them out yet....Small sites are ok though. YOu get to know everyone and it is a lot more personal. Not as much flaming or trolling going on either...
Grant has some nice wood grain steering wheels that wrap around the spokes a little bit that I like. Wood grain for the dash, console and a shift knob would look nice I think....Old School three spoke design:)
