After getting under the hood this morning I am definitly going to switch it back to stock. Mickey Mouse had a hand in this replacement, the air flow meter(correct term?)wasn'teven bolted in. A homemade bracket was bent underneath of it for it to rest on.

Stock air cleaner was replaced with a sponge type that is connected to the air meter. I t doesn't really fit correctly and the meter is not bolted in and is moved up about 1/2" to give the filter clearance from the alternator.

RE: Stock air box

Traded it out last weekend and while in the process replaced the crankcase vent tube which was left off completely(not even capped) by the previous owner, Mickey Mouse. None of my local parts stores had the air filter in stock so I am waiting for it to arrive. Started it up and let it idle up to temp and it seems to beidling cooler but I won't know for sure untill the filter arrives and I can take it for a spin. Would the crankcas eventilation make that big of a difference? In case my terminology is wrong I am talking about the hose from the timing belt cover to the air filter box.

RE: Stock air box

It isn't a crankcase hose, but a breather hose for the timing belt cover. This was a pointless hose, and the port was completely deleted from the later cars. You can just cap both ends off and you will be fine.

Just got my new filter, I know this will sound silly......but........does the side with the rubber go up or down? Being that it didn't have the stock box before I have nothing to compare to.

RE: Stock air box

Withe the original air box and this breather capped it is running quite a bit cooler. Previously it was running over the 2nd hash mark and on the edge of overheating, took it out for about 20 miles today on quite a hot day and it barely moved over the first hash mark. I don't know which helped it but the final test will be the drive home from work Monday. Thanks for your help Doc.

Drove home in upper 90 deg heat, no problems. The temp went up after getting off the freeway and sitting at a couple of lights in traffic, then cooled back down;). Next is the retaining clips on the heater control rods, someone (Mickey Mouse again) tried to fix it with 3 zip ties.
