tachometer

Hi All,
I have an '86 951 with a non-functioning tachometer. It doesn't move at all.

As far as I know there should be a wire to ground and another to the coil, but I have only just squeezed under the dash to see if the two ground points near the driver side door have corrosion. They are clean as a whistle and none of the other gauges are having any problems.

Before I pull the instrument panel out (and surely end up breaking some small plastic piece because that's what always seems to happen), is there anything I can look at? I have a copy of the Haynes manual and there is a wiring diagram which shows the tachometer schematics, but I have no way of knowing where the connections are actually being made. I looked to see if there is a fuse for the tach but there doesn't appear to be one.

Any ideas before I have to pull the instrument panel out?

Thanks!

Dan
