weird die at idle

Hi all

So I've had a 86 944NA for about a year and this is the first problem I've had. I'm driving along just fine, its a cold foggy day, I get to a light in town and the car just dies. I hear a small click and then it just dies. It would turn over, but it seemed like either no spark, no fuel, or no signal to the injectors. I try jingling the DME relay, no luck. I eventually got it started after letting it sit about 3 hours, my mechanic shows up and it start right away no problem. So how on earth would I track this down or is it perhaps just a freak occurence and was perhaps fixed simply by jiggling a couple fuses and the DME relay? What things can I look at or perhaps connection to clean that might prevent this from happening in the future? If it helps any it seems that the idle was a little rough today before it happened, and still seems a bit rough (though its possible I'm jsut being extra aware of things now)

Any ideas?? Other than this I;ve had nothing but joy from thsi car :)

Just a thought, would it be wise jsut to replace the relay because its fairly cheap and would eliminate that possible cause?? I see it at 30 bucks from 944 online.

Not only should you replace the DME relay, but you should keep a spare in your glove box.

Ok I have a new relay in the mail. I was wondering though, why is it that this part fails so often. Is it a problem with the part overheating. WOuld that explain why the car would then start again hours later?? Just curious. Thanks.
