What to do with non-working 944

Hello im new to this forum, so give me a warm welcome. =D Anyway, a slightly distant family member has given me a 1986 944 with only 86,000 miles on it, which i was very excited about, but after finding out it's not a turbo, and its an automatic, kinda made me not want to keep it as much. I love to drive manuals.

The car has been sitting in a barn for 5 years, and has a busted damper plate which looks like its gonna cost muchos $$$ to replace, and probably a bunch of other small problems have developed in the 5 years it hasnt been started.

So i want to get your opinion on something: In your opinion is this car worth spending a lot of money on to fix up and drive myself, or would i be better off getting it fixed and then selling it, or another option would be to just sell it as-is, non-working.

A friend of mine said he has friends who will fix it for free, but only on the condition that i sell it and split the money with them, which im considering doing. The only reason i wouldn't fix it myself (or at least have it fixed with my own money) is cause i dont happen to have several thousand dollars sitting around.

So i want to know, if i sold it as-is, how much money do you think i could get for it? Im sure it depends on a lot of things, but gimme a ballpark estimate. If I get at least the damper plate fixed, how much do you think i could get for it? Some info that might be relavant: there new tires (well, 5 years old but hasnt been driven on, and has been jacked up off the ground) the interior is in good condition, the body underneath all the cob webs appears to be completely rust free, and according to the previous owners knowledge, the damper plate is the only major thing wrong with it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Sell it as is, or as a parts car. You will probably get around 500-1000k depending on the cars overall condition. In good condition, you are looking at 3-4k. You will easily dump a couple of grand to get it in sellable shape, so you are going to be at that same point in the end, then spliting the money, you will actually be losing money.. After 5 years of sitting, you need to do the timing belts and rollers before trying to start it, or you will probably break the timing belt, and bend valves in the head.
